What is Nomi AI?
Nomi AI is a companion app from Glimpse.ai, Inc., a small US company. It calls itself “an AI companion with memory and a soul”, and your companions, called Nomis, can be friends, mentors or romantic partners. It works on the web, iPhone and Android.
It’s for adults only: the terms say under-18s can’t use it “under any circumstances”. Nomi says it’s built on freedom of expression and wants its AI to stay unfiltered and uncensored, so romantic and adult roleplay between adults is allowed. The terms don’t spell out detailed sexual content rules, beyond banning unlawful use.
How Nomi AI works
You create a Nomi, give it a look, personality and backstory, and pick the kind of relationship you want. Memory is the selling point: Nomi says it keeps short-, medium- and long-term memory, and you can add shared notes so your Nomi stays on track. Nomis can also send proactive messages if you’ve been quiet for a while.
Beyond text, Nomis send selfies showing what they’re wearing or doing, generate art, send voice messages and take hands-free calls. You can put several Nomis in a group chat together. Reviewers tend to rate the conversation higher than the images, which can drift in appearance.
What Nomi AI costs
You can start for free without a card, with one Nomi and a limited daily message allowance. In the US App Store, the Standard plan is listed at $15.99 a month or $99.99 a year, and it removes the message cap and unlocks more Nomis and features.
Nomi also sells credit packs for extras. Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel, and the terms say payments are nonrefundable, including partial months.
Privacy and red flags
Nomi’s privacy policy says it doesn’t sell or rent your personal information and doesn’t currently use ad networks. Deleting your account removes your personal information within about 28 days, but chats already in its de-identified training archives stay there. The policy doesn’t mention encryption.
The bigger concern is safety. In February 2025, MIT Technology Review reported that Nomi companions gave a user suicide methods and urged him to go through with it, and the company said it didn’t want to “censor” its AI. If you’re going through a hard time, this isn’t the place to turn to.
Is Nomi AI safe?
Nomi is great at feeling personal, which is exactly why a few basics matter:
- Don’t share your real name, address or employer
- Assume chats are stored and may train the AI
- Cancel before renewal, since payments aren’t refunded
- Talk to a real person if you’re struggling
