🔞 AI companion · Kindroid review
Kindroid: build your companion from scratch, then pay to keep talking.
An AI companion app where you design every detail of your character, with selfies, video, voice and video calls. How it works, what the subscription gets you, and the best sites like Kindroid.

ViceHunt’s take: Probably the most complete companion app: great memory, deep customisation and real age checks. The catch is that the free part is a short preview, so you’ll need to subscribe to keep going.

Kindroid vs the alternatives
The full Kindroid review

What is Kindroid?
Kindroid is an AI companion app run by Beautifully Incorporated, a small US company. You create characters called Kins and decide their name, personality, backstory, appearance and voice. It works on the web, iPhone and Android with one account.
It’s strictly 18+. Paid users are age-verified through their payment details, and free users the system flags must pass a Yoti selfie or ID check. Its terms don’t ban adult content between adults; the hard lines are child sexual abuse material and intimate images of real people without consent.
How Kindroid works
Once you’ve built a Kin, you chat by text, swap voice messages or call it by voice or video. Kins can send selfies and short video selfies, and you can put several Kins in group chats. A newer Rooms feature, still in beta, lets friends and their Kins share one conversation.
Memory is a strength. Each Kin keeps the backstory and key memories you write, journal entries it can recall, and long-term memory of past chats. Subscribers also get Cascaded Memory, which keeps hundreds of recent messages in view, so long stories hold together better than on most apps.
What Kindroid costs
There’s no lasting free tier. New accounts get a preview of 50 messages on the flagship model and five selfies, then the account turns read-only: you can view and export your chats, but not send anything. A three-day trial gives you most paid features, but it needs a payment method and turns into a subscription unless you cancel; Kindroid emails a reminder the day before.
Subscriptions run for one, three or twelve months, and longer plans cost less per month. Kindroid doesn’t publish prices up front; you see them at checkout, and the web is usually cheaper than the app stores. Monthly Ultra and MAX add-ons raise memory and audio limits. Plans renew automatically, and refunds are only at Kindroid’s discretion.
Privacy and reputation
Kindroid is more open about data than most rivals. Chats are encrypted in transit and at rest, but not end-to-end, and automated safety systems scan them; staff can review excerpts those systems flag, while support staff can’t browse your chats. It says it doesn’t sell or share personal data. You can delete messages instantly, and deleting your account takes effect after 24 hours.
Two caveats. The terms let Kindroid use de-identified or aggregated versions of your private content “for any purpose”, and its apps pass your ad-tracking choice to a marketing attribution provider. We found no regulator action or data breach on record.
Is Kindroid safe?
Kindroid is better behaved than most, but a few habits still help:
- Keep real names and addresses out of backstories
- Flagged chats can be read by staff
- Cancel the trial before it converts if unsure
- Remember a Kin is software, not a partner

ViceHunt’s verdict
Kindroid is one of the strongest companion apps: rich customisation, memory that holds up, and selfies, video and calls that actually work. It also takes age checks and privacy more seriously than most. You just can’t stay free for long.
Want a real free tier with strong memory? Try Nomi AI. Want something gentler and more filtered? Try Replika. Want lots of ready-made characters? Try SpicyChat AI.
Kindroid FAQ
Is Kindroid free?
Only briefly. New accounts get 50 messages and a few selfies, then become read-only. A three-day trial needs a payment method and converts to a paid plan unless you cancel.
Does Kindroid allow NSFW?
Yes, for verified adults. Its terms ban child sexual abuse material and intimate images of real people, but not adult roleplay between adults.
Is Kindroid safe?
It’s one of the more careful apps: real age checks, encryption in transit and at rest, and a promise not to sell your data. Chats aren’t end-to-end encrypted, though, and flagged excerpts can be reviewed by staff.
How does Kindroid verify age?
Subscribers are verified by their payment. Free users the system flags can pass a Yoti selfie check, or show ID if they’re 18 to 20.
What are the best Kindroid alternatives?
Nomi AI for strong memory with a free tier, Replika for a gentler companion, and SpicyChat AI for a big library of ready-made characters.
