Stripchat: a slicker free cam site, extras cost extra.

What is Stripchat?

Stripchat launched in 2016 and is run by Technius Ltd, a company in Cyprus. It’s a free-to-watch cam site much like Chaturbate, with thousands of models going live every day, but with a cleaner design and extras such as VR shows.

You can browse and watch public rooms without paying. A free account lets you chat, follow models and buy tokens.

How Stripchat works

Public shows run on tips: models set goals and tip menus, and viewers send tokens. Stripchat also offers group shows and private shows, both billed against your tokens at the rate posted in the room.

Other viewers can pay to spy on a private show without joining the chat. If you own a VR headset, some models broadcast in VR, and the help centre explains what you need to watch.

What it costs

Watching is free; tokens pay for tips and for private and group shows, and token prices depend on the package you buy. There’s also an optional Ultimate subscription with extra perks, but you still need tokens for shows and tips.

Read the small print. If you turn on auto-refill, Stripchat can charge your card again for the same amount as your last purchase. Tips and spying are never refunded, and if your account sits unused, you can lose any tokens left in it.

The data leak and the EU case

In November 2021 a security researcher found a Stripchat database left open without a password, exposing usernames, emails and IP addresses of millions of users, plus model and tipping records. Stripchat said passwords and payment details weren’t affected, but about 10 million records later turned up on a hacking forum in 2022.

The EU named Stripchat a very large online platform in 2023 and dropped that label in 2025 after its EU user numbers fell. Its child-safety investigation carried on: in March 2026 the European Commission said Stripchat’s click-to-confirm age gate isn’t good enough, and a fine of up to 6% of its turnover is possible.
