🔞 Game store · Steam review
Steam: the mainstream store for adult games, hidden until you opt in.
The world’s biggest PC game store has a large adult-only section, hidden by default. How it works, what changed in 2025, and the best sites like Steam.

ViceHunt’s take: Polished games, real refunds and a privacy switch for your library make Steam a safe pick. The trade-offs: almost nothing is free, some games ship toned down, and Valve pulled a batch of adult titles under payment-processor pressure in 2025.

Steam vs the alternatives
The full Steam review

What is Steam’s adult section?
Steam is Valve’s PC game store. Since a June 2018 policy change it has allowed almost anything that isn’t illegal or “straight up trolling”, including explicit adult games, which are labelled Adult Only Sexual Content and kept out of sight unless you ask for them.
You’ll find visual novels, dating sims, RPGs and management games, many from indie studios and from publishers that translate Japanese titles. Every game has a store page with screenshots and user reviews, so you know what you’re buying.
How to see adult games on Steam
You need a free Steam account. Open Store Preferences, tick Adult Only Sexual Content under Mature Content, and those games start showing up in search and recommendations.
In the UK, the Online Safety Act means you also need a credit card saved on your account to see mature store pages, a rule Valve added in August 2025. Games install through the Steam app on Windows, Mac, Linux or Steam Deck, depending on what each game supports.
What adult games on Steam cost
There’s no subscription: you buy each game, and the publisher sets the price. A few adult games are free, but most cost money, and seasonal sales bring prices down.
The refund policy is a real plus: you can get your money back within 14 days of purchase if you’ve played for less than 2 hours. You can also mark any game as private, which hides it from your profile, your friends and your recently played list.
The 2025 delisting and censorship
In July 2025 Valve added a rule banning content that breaks the standards of payment processors and card networks, and removed a batch of adult-only games. Valve said it acted after warnings from processors, following a campaign by the group Collective Shout; Mastercard denied pressuring anyone.
The rule is vague, so it’s hard to know what might go next. Some games also ship toned down on Steam, with the publisher offering a patch on its own site, so check the store page before you buy.
Is Steam safe?
Steam is about as safe as adult games get, but a few settings help:
- Mark adult games as private in your library
- Set your profile’s game details to private
- Only download patches from the publisher’s own site
- Use Family View if you share the computer

ViceHunt’s verdict
Steam is the safest, most polished way to buy adult games, with real refunds and a private-library option. You pay for almost everything, though, and Valve’s 2025 rule shows the selection can shrink overnight.
Want free and indie? Try itch.io. Want Japanese games straight from the source? Go to Kagura Games or MangaGamer.
