🔞 Adult game platform · Johren review
Johren: japanese games in english, 18+ versions included.
Johren brings Japanese online and download games to English-speaking players, with a separate adult side for 18+ versions. How it works, what Credits buy, and the best sites like Johren.
ViceHunt’s take: A smaller, more Japan-focused alternative to Nutaku, and often where the 18+ editions of games sold toned down on Steam end up. You need a 3D Secure card, and Credits aren’t refundable.

Johren vs the alternatives
The full Johren review
What is Johren?
Johren launched in August 2020 to bring Japanese games to English and Chinese-speaking players. Its terms name International Operation Inc. as the operator.
It has two sides: johren.net, an all-ages store with games like DEAD OR ALIVE Xtreme Venus Vacation, and johren.games, its adult site. This review is about the adult side, with free-to-play browser games and 18+ editions of visual novels.
How Johren works
You make a free account and confirm you’re over 18 to get into the adult site. Browser games run on the site, and paid download games install through the Johren Launcher on Windows.
Many Japanese visual novels come out on Steam in an all-ages form, with the 18+ edition on Johren. Nukitashi, Tenioha! and Taimanin Asagi were all announced that way.
What Johren costs
Browser games are free to play, and new accounts get bonus Credits. Johren Credits are the site currency for in-game items and premium games, and some games add their own currency on top.
You pay by credit card, debit card or GASH, and your card has to be registered for 3D Secure. Johren’s terms say Credits and other purchases generally aren’t refundable; only pre-orders can be refunded, and only in limited cases.
Is Johren legit?
Yes. It releases official versions in partnership with Japanese studios and publishers, not pirated copies. It’s a lot smaller than Nutaku, though, and the free games lean on the same gacha model.
The split between the two sites can be confusing. The all-ages johren.net only needs you to be 16, so the adult games sit on johren.games behind a separate age check.
Is Johren safe?
Johren is an official store, but the usual rules for adult games apply:
- Use a card with 3D Secure turned on
- Set a spending cap for gacha games
- Download games only through the Johren Launcher
- Use a separate email for adult accounts

ViceHunt’s verdict
Johren is worth an account if you like Japanese games and want the 18+ editions in English. It’s smaller than the big platforms, and the free titles still push you to spend.
Want more free games? Try Nutaku or Hentai Heroes. Want to buy adult games outright? Try MangaGamer or Kagura Games.
Johren FAQ
Is Johren free?
Signing up is free, browser games are free to play and new accounts get bonus Credits. In-game items and premium download games cost Credits.
Is Johren safe?
Yes, it’s an official platform that publishes licensed games. Payments need a 3D Secure card, and Credits generally can’t be refunded, so only buy what you’ll use.
What’s the difference between johren.net and johren.games?
johren.net is the all-ages store, open to anyone 16 or older. johren.games is the adult side, where the 18+ games and editions are.
What payment methods does Johren accept?
Credit cards, debit cards and GASH, depending on your region. Cards must be registered for 3D Secure.

Nutaku for the biggest choice of free adult games, Hentai Heroes for a free browser game, and MangaGamer or Kagura Games for buying Japanese adult games outright.
