What is BiCupid?
BiCupid is a dating site for bisexual and bi-curious people, launched in 2003. It welcomes singles and couples, and gay, lesbian, trans and queer members too. It says it has more than 4.2 million members, and there are apps for iPhone and Android.
It’s run by SuccessfulMatch, a Silicon Valley company that operates a network of niche dating sites. BiCupid says it’s for adults 20 and over, and it’s open about casual dating as well as relationships.
How BiCupid works
Build a profile, say whether you’re single or a couple and what you’re looking for, then browse. Flame shows you profiles one at a time to like or skip, and Gallery lets you search with filters. You can chat, send winks, and make voice or video calls.
Photo verification uses a selfie video, and the verification photo stays private. You can keep face pics in a private album, hide your profile and control who sees what.
Free vs Premium
A free Standard account lets you create a profile, browse and view profiles, send a limited number of winks and reply to messages from Premium members. To start a conversation you need Premium, which also unlocks advanced filters and other extras.
Prices depend on your country and plan length. App Store subscriptions renew automatically, and on the web you can check or switch off auto-renewal under Settings.
Reputation and red flags
BiCupid is a real, long-running site, but it’s worth knowing who’s behind it. In 2014 a California jury returned a $16.5 million verdict against SuccessfulMatch, finding it misled members of its PositiveSingles site about their profiles appearing on affiliated sites. BiCupid still describes itself as one of a group of affiliated dating sites.
App reviews are mixed, at about 4.0 on the App Store and 3.5 on Google Play, and BiCupid doesn’t run background checks. Read the privacy policy, keep identifying photos private and favour verified members.
